Narendra Modi
Narendra Damodardas Modi has been the chief minister of Gujarat since October 2001. He was promoted to office at a time when his predecessor Keshubhai Patel had resigned, following the defeat of BJP in the by-elections. Despite the criticism on his government surrounding the 2002 Gujarat violence, Modi enjoys considerable support in his home state and is credited with the high economic growth there.
